The Cotocon Group

The Cotocon Group wanted to update their web presence with a site that featured their latest projects and media, and also allowed for updating via the WordPress Dashboard, Facebook and Twitter. LEED certification encompasses many disciplines, and the wealth of images, video, pdfs and links on the site reflect this. A vital feature of the new site was ease of editing and updating content. Of course, Miniboom stays on hand to help with deeper issues and software updates, but the team at The Cotocon Group exercises control over content.

Because of the wealth of content and the different areas of the site, frequent consults toward the beginning of the development process were crucial, and beneficial.

At Miniboom we believe that getting the site up and running is only the first step; the real work is in maintenance, updating, and the periodic ‘design face-lift’. After we have your site up, we commit to staying on hand (for varying lengths of time, contact us!), in order to ensure that the site is stable, that content and SEO stay updated, and to upgrade the occasional new CMS release.

With The Cotocon Group, as with all the sites we develop, we registered the site with Google Analytics, Bing, Yahoo, Alexa and Compete. We monitor keyword use, and constantly update our tags and keywords to reflect, and capitalize upon, visitor trends. All this insures that the site is highly visible, search-able, and indexed with most search engines.

Djemba

Djemba is a Paris-based guitarist and trumpeter who needed a centralized way to manage his gigs, recordings, song lyrics and poetry. This page was a pleasure to work on, not only because of the lively, multi-faceted content, but for the clean, minimal design the content inspired. For the logo, and much of the typography, we endeavored to infuse the design with references to Djemba’s instruments of choice, without overstating the obvious ( = yes, this is a music site…)

At Miniboom, we delight in multi-language support, and Djemba.net was the perfect opportunity to develop this site in French and English.

We are particularly enthusiastic about CSS and Web Standards at Miniboom, and achieving XHTML valid code is our goal with every site. This means that your site should look and feel the same between different browsers (like Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Safari, and Firefox), but also between different OSs (such as Windows, Linux, OSX, Iphone OS, etc).

Mary Panzer

Mary Panzer is an expert photo historian, with oodles of beautiful images from early American photographers. She writes and lectures on photography, and it was a thrill to sort out how to get everything included on the site with multiple ports of access. A valuable lesson here was learning to be patient as we experimented with ways to access all the content; we eventually settled on a system where books, articles, and interviews could be quickly found through the menu, image links, searching, or cross-referencing. As for design, much of the heavy lifting was done by Mathew Brady, Lewis Hine, and Henry Clay Anderson (photographers featured on the site).

Another concern in Mary Panzer’s site was finding the right typeface to legibly, yet decoratively, display the important texts which accompany each book and photo. Typography is consistently a concern at Miniboom, especially given the special psychology behind legibility, kerning, and line height. It’s a process.

For this site, we needed only minimal social networking (Facebook, Twitter, an RSS feed), since we wanted to keep the focus on the scholarly work in the site, which would not be updated quite as much as other kinds of sites.


Common Ground Travel Logo

Logos are the face of your company, even more so for a small, local companies. Take New York City-based group, Common Ground Travel that specializes in taking children’s dance troupes overseas. When Wolfgang Bäumler, the local representaive of Common Ground Travel, first visited the Miniboom studios in November 2009, he came with a solid goal – a colorful design to represent the child-like spirit of the type of travel he and the young dancers took. In this case, American dance students would be brought to festivals in Germany and France, or vice versa. As such, the design had to be whimsical and child-like while still giving the feeling of movement.

Within a week, Mr. Bäumler received the first designs. After a few revisions, we were able to settle on this colorful design. After each revision, Mr. Bäumler was notified. No revision took more than a day or two at most.

The design now graces the Common Ground Web site along with a full logo identity package including letterhead and businesscards, indispensible in the modern business world. There are also unlimited sizes, variations, resolutions and formats to choose from. In addition, Miniboom promises to provide any other additional format upon request for a period of up to two years.

The design was made in Adobe Illustrator, a combination of free-drawing and modifying already existing vector graphics. The font used in the design is ITC book, narrow and black – the “Chanel” font. The font was then stretched modified under the direction of the designer and in accordance with the overall design of the aforementioned materials.

Stephen Zezza

Steven Zezza is a Paris-based professional photographer specializing in wedding, actor and fashion photography. Mr. Zezza needed a site that would showcase his work front and center. Low on text and big on vision, Miniboom created a design that would allow for slideshow functions as well as multiple single photo features. A simple and unique portfolio, in this case has one Mr. Zezza work in several well-known Paris based magazines and one set of photos of a Paris radio station.

Mr. Zezza’s site is a modified WordPress theme, allowing for the photographer to update his/her portfolio as that new gig may be just around the corner, it is important to have control over one’s public artistic presentation. The minimalist design let’s the photos speak for themselves. The site also uses no Flash, allowing it to be viewed on all smart devices including iPhones. It’s in cases like these that it pays to work with Miniboom where we always take Web standards seriously.

Mr. Zezza contacted Miniboom to make a good portfolio site. After intitial consultations, work from the ground to the World Wide Web took about two weeks with revisions and editing. Even after the initial set-up of the site, Miniboom continues to work with Mr. Zezza, helping him create the Web-based face to express his sense of style and flair.

Jeanne Suica

At miniboom, no job is too large or small. Changing or modifying an existing site is an efficient way to maintain or redefine your Web presence. Jeanne Suica’s original site was made for her from an Online service, creating cookie cutter Web sites. That’s where a personal touch can make all the difference. This HTML site started as only 8 pages and quickly developed into a custom coded and designed bi-lingual site.

Of our bi-lingual fashion-based sites, Ms. Suica has remained one of Miniboom’s most loyal clients. Initially only contacting us for a facelift of an existing site,Miniboom has made countless updates, a sister site, and help with the set up of an Online store.

Ms. Suica is a vintage clothing expert, running her own appraisal and auction service, she also buys and sells to private clients around the world. So, when she finds a Féraud or Jean Paul Gaultier, it’s important to display them in their best possible light. We have done this in a simple HTML format with modified Javascript, best for delivering content quickly and on all devices large and small.

Ottenhof, Britsch, Selly

The law firm of Anna Ottenhoff, Natacha Britsch and Patrice Selly, avocats à la cour, needed a Web site that would not only reflect their commitment to the people, but also as an informative stop off point for the many people they advocate for. This Paris-based law firm specializes in immigration law and advocacy. To serve this population, it was important to launch the Web site with bi-lingual capabilities.

Multiple pages direct to the main, with different sections related to the different areas of law covered. This simple HTML format uses PHP to move from French to English texts and vice versa. Javascript is used on several pages as an added design trait with a picture slide show of those the firm has won cases for. Drop down menus also reflect XHTML uses.

The firm also requested logo design. Starting with the tri-color theme, Miniboom came upon this design in cool contemporary colors that mirrored the Web site. A simple circle in the middle as a symbol of continuity. This very minimal logo design is now used on letterhead, envelopes, business cards and signs. In this case, a clear identity is key.
